Hoffmann Group 51 Information relating to the safety signs The introduction of new occupational safety signs to ASR A1.3 (2013) and DIN EN ISO 7010 leads to significant changes at workplaces. This restructuring is the consequence of increasing globalisation whereby the German standards have been absorbed into the range of internationally agreed safety signs. ASR A1.3 (2013): The Technical Regulations for Workplaces (ASR) simplify the hazard assessment according to the Workplace Ordinance, and also the determination of the appropriate protective measures. It has the objective of setting out more concrete requirements (shape, colour, symbols) for the safety signs. The rules incorporate symbols from DIN EN ISO 7010 and also some from DIN 4844-2. In Germany, symbols drawn from both standards are approved. The use of the current safety signs to ASR 1.3 (2013) is required by the legally enforceable Workplace Ordinance. If obsolete safety signs (to ASR 1.3 (2007) or BGV A8) are used, a hazard assessment must be performed by the company to check that the safety signs can be relied on to ensure protection of employees. For this reason we expressly recommend the use of the current safety signs to ASR 1.3 (2013) BGV A8 and DIN 4844-2 no longer satisfy the applicable regulations BGV A8: The accident prevention regulations of the trade association insurers for health and safety signs at the workplace have been superseded by the Technical Regulations for Workplaces ASR 1.3 (2013). DIN 4844-2: This standard defines the version and shape of safety signs in Germany. It has been superseded by DIN EN ISO 7010 in order to present uniform formatting of symbols for the international market. Please familiarise yourself with the regulations applicable in your country and speak with your specialist PPE adviser The meaning of the colours of safety signs According to the Workplace Ordinance 3 section 1.3, safety signs should be used when the risks for health and safety cannot be avoided or sufficiently limited by technical or organisational measures. In addition, DIN 4844-1 specifies the recognition ranges and also the colour requirements. DIN 5381 "identification colours" specifies the RAL colours.
