The surface structure, the size of the workpiece, and the pressure differential are crucial for the clamping force/ movement resistance force of the workpiece. Virtually all surface geometries of varying materials, including films and porous materials, can be securely clamped using the vacuum technology. Vacuum clamping technology is suitable for milling, grinding, turning, inspecting, measuring, coating, laser cutting, polishing, drilling, deburring, engraving, and assembly. Highly accurate clamping, the avoidance of damage, and the automation of production require new clamping systems. Advantages of vacuum clamping: Clamping of pressure-sensitive workpieces, therefore no damage or distortion to the component. Clamping of very thin sheets or films. S-face machining in a single clamping. No vibration during machining. Reduced clamping times due to quick clamp/quick release process (< 1 second). Can be adapted to the GARANT ZeroClamp zero point clamping system. Non-magnetic materials can be clamped. Thin soft re-usable plastic mats with vacuum holes, suckers in various sizes , with elastic lips on the upper face and fine holes in the centre. High clamping forces, clamping faces with high coefficient of friction. Milling of external and internal contours can be performed, yielding precise and clean burr-ffee cut edges on the workpiece. No scratching of surfaces, therefore suitable for sensitive materials. Significantly reduced set-up times when changing over workpieces. Clamping surfaces are provided with slits. Clamping is achieved using rubber adapter mats or covering films, which are laid between the workpiece and vacuum plate. It is then laid on the surface of the vacuum slit plate and suction is applied to it and to the workpiece. The outstand ing coefficient of friction offers good resistance to the movement forces that arise during machining. Preferable for thin-walled, fine or soft workpieces such as paper, film, circuit boards, metal strips, lenses, rubber. Also suitable for measurement and inspection processes in the micrometre or nanometre range, for precision machining and in silicon wafer production. Depending on the application , the damping surfaces can consist of permeable sintered bronze, ceramic or porous aluminium. The special characteristics of METAPOR open up a wide variety of application fields and new types of solutions to problems. No deformation of the workpieces. The selection criterion for vacuum power units and pumps is the size of the clamping area.
