Hoffmann Group 51 KNEE PROTECTION Working in a kneeling position is extremely stressful for the body as a whole and especially for the knees. Without knee protection injuries can occur, caused by hard surfaces or by sharp objects lying on the floor. The continuous pressure on the knees increases the risk of a chronic condition. It is therefore important to use the correct knee protection and to maintain the optimum position. Knee protection evenly distributes the forces that arise and reduces the stress. The standard EN 14404 is a European standard which specifies the requirements for “Knee protectors for working in a kneeling position". During the test the knee protectors are tested for shock absorption, pressure distribution and resistance to penetration by sharp objects. In this respect the distinction is made between the following types (see also page 212): Knee protectors can be attached to the leg irrespective of the clothing and can be combined with all trousers. EN14404/TYPE 1 A = Knee pads are inserted into the knee pockets on the trousers. To ensure the correct position, the knee pad is certified jointly with the trousers. Therefore knee pads are approved for use only with the specified trousers.
