So it is more important than ever to protect our eyes against any sort of negative influences. In Germany, every year there are about 300,000 injuries to eyes. These injuries to eyes can be caused by many different influences. Mechanical and chemical hazards are easily recognised. Less evident is damage caused by optical and thermal radiation. These can arise from natural and artificial sources (hot bodies, welding and cutting with burners, when using lasers or with electrical apparatus). 90% of these accidents can be prevented by appropriate eye protection/face protection, correctly used. Any form of personal protective equipment can be effective only when it is worn. This means not only the right protection level and equipment, but the perception of each individual employee. Here wearers must be made aware of the importance of personal protective equipment and innovative products must be provided to ensure high acceptance by wearers.
